Who We Are
Friends of Grotzman Creek Watershed was formed by a group of neighbors from Arcata’s upper Sunnybrae community to advocate for the relocation of the proposed cell tower adjacent to Shirley Blvd between Fickle Hill road and Beverly Drive.
Our City of Arcata residential homes wrap around a narrow gulch of undeveloped county land that shelters the free-flowing West Fork of Grotzman Creek. This area is not only a cherished green space but also part of a sensitive watershed that supports local wildlife and contributes to Arcata’s natural beauty.
Today, our neighborhood is threatened with an industrial-scale 180-foot cell tower proposal, planned for the county land just 200 to 500 feet from numerous residences. We believe such a structure is incompatible with the character and ecological importance of this area. Our goal is to have the tower relocated to a more suitable site that would provide excellent service without increasing fire risk, noise, radiation exposure, habitat loss, or reducing property values in our community.
